March Fairyloot unboxing 2018

I was supposed to receive my Fairyloot box Saturday but unfortunately didn't so having to write this post today.

Fairyloot is a YA fantasy book subscription box. The box contains a book related to the theme and 5 or 6 items that also do. You can either buy a single box or subscribe for 3 or 6 months.

This months Fairyloot is their anniversary so the box is purple instead of black and the theme is memorable moments.

The first item in the box is Bilbo's birthday cake soap, inspired by lord of the rings. It is made by geeky clean and is vanilla and strawberry scented but to me smells like bubblegum.

The next item is a Harry Potter inspired candle. It is exclusive to fairyloot and made by Paper flames. It smells like bread and chocolate.

Next is an exclusive rune scarf. It is made by FictionTea and is inspired by Cassandra Clare's Shadowhunter chronicles. The scarf contains many runes some of them are the angelic rune, Iratze, Fearless and speed.

Up next is cork bunting by Paladone. This is a different item to what you usually find in book subscription boxes.

Next item is some hot chocolate called Toast to the warden of the North made by Eponie. This is inspired by Game of thrones. I love that it is hot chocolate instead of tea and have been waiting for them to add some in a box as i don't drink tea or coffee.

Last of the items are a belles bookmark and belle pin. These are from the book The Belles by Dhonielle Clayton.

The book in this months box is State of sorrow by Melinda Salisbury. The hardcover is exclusive to Fairyloot as the book is only out in paperback in the UK. it also came with a signed bookplate, Fairyloots bookmark, a letter from the author and a post card with the books cover on.

State of sorrow by Melinda Salisbury is about Sorrow. Her court the Court of Tears which is in perpetual grief caused by her brothers death who died before she was born. She governs the court instead of her farther until her brother is apparently found alive and she no must decided whether to step aside for 'her brother' or to fight for the position she hasn't ever wanted.

I really liked this box, i hadn't heard of this book but now really want to read it. This has been my fourth Fairyloot box and have loved all of them and would recommend them. Next months theme is whimsical journeys. There will be two items that they haven't had in previous boxes. They still have some of these boxes available today.

The box is £26 and available here, you can see previous boxes here if you want to see others before you decide and see if it ships to your country and any other questions here.

Thanks for reading and follow and share my blog.

Posion study review

This review has taken longer then what i wanted to write mainly because i have wanted to do other things have. I have been wanting to read this book for so long and have now finally read it YAY.

Poison study by Maria V. Snyder is about Yelena who has been in prison for a year waiting to be hung for murdering someone. she gets offered the job to be the commanders food taster. The food tasters job is to taste food and drink for poison to protect the Commander.

I loved Yelena, she is a great heroine. She is intelligent, stubborn and prepared to learn. You learn slowly what happened and why to Yelena and the reasoning behind the murder of Reyad.

Yelena constantly proves to everyone that they underestimate her and that she has more to her then what it looks like, for example that she is a rat.

She trains to defend herself, to use a switchblade and a bow. She also learned how to pick locks. Yelena also prepares well and is organised. she always brings what she needs ad a few other things in her backpack like a grappling hook, Rand's glue and food.

Valek is intelligent, loyal, highly knowledgeable about poisons and fighting. Valek is an assassin and the Commanders spymaster. He is a highly skilled fighter and can fight hand to hand or with a weapon, he has even fought four people with just a mug.

He is completely loyal to Commander Ambrosia and to protecting him where he will do anything to achieve that. He is Yelena's mentor and protector early on. I love him and is a good love interest. i spent most of the book wanting them to kiss and when they finally do i may have screamed a little.

Yelena gains to adorable friends Ari and Janco who end up like brothers to her. Valek has named then them the power twins, they are the opposite of each other and super cute, with each other and Yelena. They are loyal to Yelena and train her in self defence and fighting with a bow and a switchblade. Janco trains her in pick locking.

Maria V. Snyder gives you enough information in regards to the overall plot and what happened to Yelena to keep you going to the end and to keep you intrigued and to try and work out what is going on.

There is not enough of Valek being awesome and no where enough of him being swoon worthy. There also isn't enough of Valek and Yelena together being adorable.

Maria V. Snyder needs to improve on her descriptions of people as they are usually loosely described and hard to picture.

Thankfully this book lived up to my expectation and i loved this book it is defiantly a five star book.

The book life tag

I haven't been tagged in it but i felt like doing it anyway, i found this tag on crazy for ya. This tag is about building your life using book characters.

1.Who would be your parents be?

It would have to be Molly's mothers from the upside of unrequited by Becky Albertalli. I love Nadine and patty they are funny, an adorable couple and awesome parents. parents in ya most of the time are non existent or just fade away but Nadine and Patty are always there, want to know what is happening and try to help.

2. Who would be your sister?

I kinda want to say Paige from The Bone season by Samantha Shannon but it would then be weird as
both our names are Paige. I love Paige, she is one of my favourite female protagonists. Luna from Harry Potter would be my next choice. Luna is weird and funny and strong. she goes through so much bullying but never lets it get her down. I think we would make great sisters as well as best friends and would have so much fun together.

3. Who would be your brother?

My brother  would be Alec from The Mortal instruments by Cassandra Clare. Alec is a great brother and friend so i would love it if he was my actual brother.

4. Who would be your pet?

It's hard to choose a pet as i love animals and want them all.

5. Where would you live?

I would live in London as i would still like to live in England.

6. Where would you go to school?

I think my answer is obvious, who wouldn't pick Hogwarts, who hasn't wanted to go. Hogwarts would be so fun and you get to learn magic.

7. Who would be you best friend?

Theta Knight from the Diviners by Libba Bray. I love Theta and would want to be there for her.

8. Who would you be in love with?

It has to be Rhysand from ACOTAR by Sarah J Mass. He is such a great boyfriend and friend. He is supportive, risks himself to protect his friends.

Bygone badass broads reveiw

This is my first blog post in a while due to being ill again, i haven't read in days, my brain has been a pile of mush and I've been sleeping a lot. Today's post is my review of Bygone bad ass broads.

The main reason i picked up this book was because Mackenzie Lee wrote it. I loved The gentleman's guide to vice and virtue. I love her writing, i loved how it was informal and more like a friend was talking to you about female historical figures.

It was also so diverse, it is stated at the start of the book that she loved history but was always taught about men and the lack of diversity. The book includes women from around the world, there are lesbians, bi, pan and transgender women.

The book can be read as a whole if you want or you can pick it up anytime and read where you left of or pick a random women to read about. This makes it useful if you want something easy to read of as a coffee table book etc.

The women in the book actually had an effect on history whether they were queens, vigilantes or criminals like Lakshmibai, The Rani of Jhansi, Queen who fought colonialism with her son strapped to her. Julie D'Aubigny/La Maupin bisexual swordswoman and Ching Shih awesome pirate.

They also were complex women and some were criminals. History is full of men who are complex and can be completely evil, women are usually picture as good and demure which isn't true. Friederike Mandelbaum aka Marm is an example of this she started of as a fence and the became the biggest criminal in America.

The only issue i had with this book was that once America had been established it jumped less around the world and focused more there, it got kinda annoying when there were more then two.

Top 10 books to read 2018

I thought i would do a post on the 10 books i really want to read this year and hopefully get me to read them but as i need to get through my physical tbr before i will allow myself to buy more books. As i have just gotten back into reading there will be some books that everyone has read and that i need to catch up on.

The first book is Throne of glass by Sarah J Mass. This book and series is popular but has recently lost fans due to decisions Sarah J Mass. I have only recently gotten the book which was during December.

I assume everyone knows the plot of this book so i will just say it is about Celaena who has been given an offer to be the royal assassin for her freedom. I want to start the series this year as i love books about assassins.

The next book i want to hopefully read is Percy Jackson and the sea of monsters by Rick Riordan. I read the first book in October and brought the rest in December. I have never read this series when it originally came out and would like to carry on with the series.

This is the second book in the series so i don't want to say much about the plot. the series follows Percy Jackson who is a demi god whose his father is a Greek god.

Shadow and bone by Leigh Bardugo is the third book i want to read this year. Which like the other two books everyone has read and loved especially the six of crows duology which is well loved. I plan on reading this after. They don't need to be read in publication order but i always prefer to read books in this order.

Shadow and bone Follows Alina who's regiment is attacked and revels a power which saves her best friends life. she is then taken to the palace where she is trained as a Grisha.

The fourth book i really want to get to this year is The cruel prince by Holly Black. The cruel prince is a fairy book where Jude and her sisters are kidnapped and taken to the fairy world. after ten years Jude wants to belong to the world and must try to win a place in the court where humans are hated. i have heard that the book is hard to get through due t the things that happen to Jude so the book will be read when i am mentally prepared for it.

The next book is a gathering of shadows  by V.E Schwab. I read the first book last year on my phone. I wanted to read A gathering of shadows once i had gotten the trilogy physically. Once i had gotten the books there have just been others that i want to read so haven't gotten to it yet unfortunately. I really want to finish this trilogy this year as the first book was so good and V.E Schwab's writing is amazing.

Like previous books this is the second book so i don't want to talk about the plot to not spoil it. The books follow Kell who is an antari who can travel between the four parallel London's.

Next is Harry potter and the philosophers stone the illustrated edition by J.K
Rowling. I really want to read the illustrated edition as the illustration as gorgeous and i think it will be a great way to enjoy and read the books.

The hobbit is the seventh book in this list. I love middle earth and have seen the lord of the rings films a ridiculous amount of times. i have yet to read any of the books and i am intimidated by them. I thought it would be best to read the hobbit first as it is a kids book so easier to read then the lord of the rings. I also want to read this on first as it was written first.

The eighth book is The last wish by Andrzej Sapkowski. This is the only book i have on
audible. I love the Witcher games and have wanted to read the books for a while now. The last wish is a collection of short stories centred around Geralt a Witcher. Witcher's are monster hunters who are mutants and have a long life.

Next is Furyborn. I got this book in a fairyloot box, it is the arc version and is due out in may. i started reading this in December but got distracted by another book and just haven't gotten back to it. i was enjoying it and really want to get back into it. Furyborn has two pov characters Queen Rielle and Eliana.

The final book is Howl's moving castle by Diana Wynne Jones. I manged to find this book in my local second hand bookshop. I love the
cover and love the film so much, it's my second favourite studio Ghibli film. Sophie is the eldest sister which means she is domed to fail. Sophie ends up meeting the witch of the wilds who curses her to be an old lady.

Comment what books you want to get to this year and follow and share
Thank you for reading

February wrap up

My previous February wrap up has for some reason disappeared, i have no idea why so time to redo it, yay.

For February have have read four books which is a big improvement on January and the last few months of 2017. I have been in a reading slump and either reading nothing or only one book. this may be due to me listing to audio books now and can read at any time and able to get through books whilst on the bus, showering or gaming.

The first book i read was Lair of dreams by Libba Bray. I read this as soon as i finished the diviners at the end of January. I loved both of these books and can't wait to read the third book. Lair of dreams takes place a few months after the Diviners and as it is a sequel i don't want to say the plot but does bring in a new character called Ling who has polio and i loved her.

I found this on so much easier to get into compared to the first one. i read it so much faster as well. I read this on audio book like i did the Diviners and would recommend listening to it as the narrator January LaVoy does such a good job. This book was a five star book, i couldn't recommend it enough.
 ★★★★★

The next book is Soulless by Gail Carringer. I also read this as an audio book and was my fastest read, probably because it was short but also my favourite and i completely devoured this book.

Soulless take place in a alternate Victorian Britain were werewolves and vampires are apart of society and are found in the aristocracy. Alexia is half Italian, a spinster and soulless.

Soulless was hilarious and i absolutely loved it. If i didn't need to read my other books i would be reading the sequel now. This was also a 5 star book
★★★★★

The Novice by Taran Matharu is the third book i read. I have wanted to read this book for so long. Not only because i love this cover so much (it is so pretty) but also i was told it is a mix of Harry Potter and Pokemon. This description completely sold me on the book.

The Novice is about Fletcher who is an orphan and a blacksmiths apprentice. he lives in a small northern town near the outskirts of the Human territory. he finds a scroll and summons a demon, after this there is an accident. He is forced to flee and ends up at the summoners school.

I loved this book and would defiantly would recommend this is you like anything to do with demons, schools and magic. This like the previous two was a five star.
★★★★★

The final book i read in February was The Hazel wood, i got this book in my fairyloot box and was excited to read it that i read it start away. i had heard mostly good things about this book which may be why i am so disappointed that i didn't like it.

The Hazel wood is about Alice who has always moved about with her mum, Ella. they have always been plagued with bad luck and once it shows up they move again. Alice's Nan is a author of a fairy tale book, they receive a letter to say she that she is dead, then Ella is kidnapped.

I liked the started but got bored during the middle and skim read the end. I have a review on this book if you want to know more on why i didn't like this book. For me this was a three star read.
★★★

Thank you for reading, leave a comment on which was your favourite book you read in February

I was rearranging my bookshelf and was looking at my covers and it gave me an idea of doing a post on my favourite book covers, these video...
